Anton Cooper and Samara Maxwell go back to back and win round two of Oceania MTB Continental Series

Oceania Mountain Bike Cross-country Champions Anton Cooper and Samara Maxwell have taken out round two of the 2025 Oceania MTB Continental Series and back to back series wins in Canberra, Australia, Saturday 1 March 2025.

Nothing separated Cooper and Jack Ward (Australia) in the elite men’s race, with the duo locked together throughout with Cooper using his experience and speed to take out the sprint finish. Oceania Mountain Bike Marathon Champion Brent Rees (Australia) rounded out the top three 38 seconds back.

With one round to go Cooper has wrapped up the overall series victory. On 200 points he is 120 clear or his nearest rival and with a maximum of 100 available in round three he cannot be overhauled at the top of the standings.

In the elite women’s race it was a hotly contested race between two Olympians and World Cup stars in Maxwell and Rebecca Henderson (Australia). They were closely matches over the opening four laps before Maxwell was able to ride to victory on the final lap repeating the result from the opening round with Zoe Cuthbert (Australia) in third place.

The race for the overall title will go down to the final race with Maxwell holding a 40 point and needing to finish third or better to claim the overall win.

Harry Doye (Australia) improved on his second place in the opening round to claim the under 23 men’s race. Doye holds a narrow series lead on 100, 10 clear of Coen Nicol (New Zealand) on 90 and Joel Dodds (Australia) on 70. Ella Menigoz (Australia) took out the under 23 women’s having placed fifth in the opening round. She now leads the series on 90, just 10 clear of Annabel Bligh (New Zealand) with the top five all able to finish on the final podium.

In the under 19 races Australia’s Connor Wright stormed to victory by over three minutes over round one winner James Climo (New Zealand). Ahead of the final round Climo sits on 38 points, ahead of Fletcher Adams (New Zealand) on 32 and Oscar Talbot (New Zealand) on 28.

It was a similar story in the under 19 women’s with Kayley McMillan (New Zealand) taking the win ahead of round one winner Millie Junge (New Zealand). Junge remains the overall series leader with a dominant 38 points and with a 14 point lead she needs to finish seventh or better to claim the series.

The 2025 Oceania MTB Continental Series will conclude on Sunday with round three.
