Brent Rees and Monique de Abreu claim 2024 Oceania MTB Marathon titles in Dwellingup

Australia’s Brent Rees and Monique de Abreu claimed the 2024 Oceania Mountain Bike Marathon titles in Dwellingup, Australia on Saturday 14 September.

The Oceania MTB Marathon Championships were held for just the second time as part of the longstanding Dwellingup 100.

In the men’s race Rees was part of an early group of four that establish itself in the first seven kilometres and remained together for much of the next 35 kilometres. From there is turned in to a two rider race between Rees and Tasman Nankervis (Australia) with the duo closely matched towards the finish. Rees proved to have the most left as he raced towards the line covering the 100 kilometre course in four hours, four minutes and 50 seconds. Nankervis grabbed silver five seconds back, with Jon Odams (Australia) completing the podium, two and a half minutes behind Rees.

De Abreu, was a woman on a mission from the start as she raced away in the opening kilometres and never looked back. She covered the course in just over five hours to pull on the Oceania Champions jersey. Silver went to Tracey Chapman (Australia).
