Brent Rees looks to defend title at 2025 Oceania Mountain Bike Marathon Champions
Brent Rees (Australia) will line up as the defending champion at the 2025 Oceania Mountain Bike Marathon Champions, held in conjunction with the Dwellingup 100, in Dwellingup, Western Australia on Saturday 13 October 2025.
Since its introduction as an Oceania Championship in 2023, the mountain bike marathon discipline has grown as a Continental Championship, with 2025 set to be the biggest yet and includes under 23 and under 19 categories for the first time.
In the men’s field, Rees is joined by local favourite Reece Tucknott (Australia) and world championship representative Joel Green (Australia).
In the women’s race, local star Sarah Tucknott (Australia) fresh from a podium finish at the Australian Championships and Elizabeth Nuspan (Australia) are names to watch.
“I’m really excited to be coming back to Dwellingup for the 2025 edition,” said Rees who claimed silver at the Australian Championships last month.
“It’s also been really special to have the jersey. Being the 2023 Australian Marathon Champion, it was great to earn another title jersey back. Racing in the Oceania jersey overseas in California, America at Sea Otter Classic — where I finished second to a very strong Alex Wild in the XL Fuego — was a highlight. I’ve also had the chance to represent it at the Otway Odyssey and a few other marathons / stage races across Australia, which has been an awesome experience.
“I think it’s fantastic that Dave [Budge] and the team go to the effort to hold the Oceania title in conjunction with the Dwellingup 100. It’s something all the elite riders really appreciate, and it definitely legitimizes the race as a top event — as well as providing a cool extra motivator for the title fight.”
“I’m also just really excited to be back in Dwellingup itself. The town, the trails, and the scenery are so beautiful and so different from what we have on the East Coast. The people are always super welcoming, and it’ll be a great weekend catching up with all my mates over in Western Australia.
