Lachlan Stevens-McNab and Jenna Hastings back to winning ways at round four of Oceania MTB Continental Series in Rotorua
New Zealand downhill stars Lachlan Stevens-McNab and Jenna Hastings picked up where they left off and claimed elite wins at downhill round four of the 2025 Oceania Mountain Bike Continental Series in Rotorua.
The dominant elite men’s rider of the series so far Stevens-McNab who finished second in round one and won round two, was too quick earning himself a second series win, over half a second clear of Tuhoto-Ariki Pene (New Zealand) and Matt Walker (Great Britain) who was three seconds back.
With one round remaining Stevens-McNab has already secured the overall series victory with 250 points, 120 clear of Pene and with a maximum of 90 points on offer at Crankworx Cairns he cannot be overhauled.
The battle for the minor places will go down to the final ride with Jackson Connelly (Australia) on 123 and Bernard Kerr (Great Britain) and Sam Gale (New Zealand) both on 100.
In the elite women’s Hastings made it three wins from the three rounds she has contested. The 21-year-old finished second seconds clear of Camielle Balanche (Switzerland) and Louise-Anna Ferguson (Great Britain).
Like her compatriot she has the series locked with 270 points to her name. With two third place finishes Ferguson sits second with a narrow advantage over round three winner Sian A’hern (Australia) and Kalani Muirhead (New Zealand).
After missing round three Tyler Waite (New Zealand) stormed back to the top of the podium by over one and a half seconds to claim win number three of the series in the junior men’s category. Oli Clark (New Zealand) and round three winner Rory Meek (New Zealand) were next best.
The series looks set to go down to the wire in Cairns with three riders separated by just three points. Meek with one win and podium finishes across all four rounds sits on 95, just five clear of Waite and Clark on 90.
With a riders top four results counting for the overall standings Waite has easy room to add to his tally, while Meek and Clark with four rides done will be looking to take the win and drop their lowest result to challenge for the series win.
Kate Hastings (New Zealand) dominated the junior women’s race taking a comprehensive victory over Indy Deavoll (New Zealand) and Matilda Henness (Australia).
In the series standings consistency has been key for Deavoll with two wins and strong results sits on 95. She is 19 clear of Henness and 30 in front of Hastings. Hastings if she races in Cairns will be looking to move up and challenge for the series. While Deavoll and Henness have both competed in all four series if they compete in Cairns one result will drop.
The final round of the 2025 Oceania Mountain Bike Continental Series in Rotorua will be held at Crankworx Cairns, 21-25 May.
