Oceania Cycling Confederation confirms 2020 Continental Championships

The Oceania Cycling Confederation (OCC) is pleased to confirm the 2020 Oceania Championship calendar with the 2020 Oceania Mountain Bike Championships to be held in Dunedin, New Zealand, January 24-25.

President of the Oceania Cycling Confederation and Member of the Union Cycliste Internationale Management Committee Tracey Gaudry said, “We are delighted to confirm the full 2020 Oceania Championship calendar across Track, Mountain Bike, Road and BMX, which will be held across Australia and New Zealand.

“Following the successful Oceania Track Championships in October, the inaugural Oceania BMX Freestyle Championships will take place in December, while the opening months of 2020 will see Mountain Bike, Road and BMX Championships offer exceptional opportunities for elite and aspiring riders to compete in an international event in our continent. Taking place in the lead up to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, all Oceania Championships offer important points for Olympic qualification.”

The 2020 Oceania Track Championships took place from 16-19, October 2019 in Invercargill, New Zealand, where 40 titles were awarded across elite and under 19 categories for men and women, forming an important part of the Olympic qualification process.

January will see Mountain Bikers return to Dunedin, which last hosted the Oceania Mountain Bike Championships, two years ago. Held across January 24 and 25 some of the best off road riders in the world will be in action. Cross-country titles for under 19, under 23 and elite will be decided on Friday, January 24 with Downhill titles awarded on Saturday.

After the opening two Championships in New Zealand, attention turns to Tasmania, with the Australian state hosting both the Oceania Road and BMX Championships. The 2020 Oceania Road Championships return for the third year in a row, between March 13 and 15, where 12 champions will be crowned across the road race and time trials for under 19, under 23 and elite men and women.

Two weeks later BMX racing will take over the Apple Isle with the 2020 Oceania BMX Championships, held in Tasmania for the first time.

The inaugural Oceania BMX Freestyle Championships, will be held in Melbourne, December 7, the final Oceania Championship of 2019.
