Oceania riders win four world titles at 2018 UCI Junior Track World Championships
Oceania riders won four world titles among an 11 medal haul at the 2018 UCI Junior Track World Championships at the UCI World Cycling Centre in Aigle, Switzerland, August 15-19.
Three-time Oceania Track Champion Thomas Cornish (Australia) set a new World Record of 1min 0.498secs on route to gold in the men’s 1km time trial, while also taking silver in the sprint.
Junior time trial Oceania Champion Luke Plapp (Australia) claimed two world titles, first tasting success in an exciting points race before adding a second in the Madison with Blake Quick (Australia) who also picked up a bronze medal in the Madison. Both were part of the bronze medal winning team pursuit quartet with Matthew Rice and Luke Wight.
Corbin Strong a three time reigning Oceania Track Champion helped New Zealand to team pursuit gold alongside George Jackson, Finn Fisher-Black and Bailey O’Donnell.
New Zealand also found the podium in the women’s event with Oceania Champions Ally Wollaston, McKenzie Milne and Sami Donnelly combining with Annamrie Lipp to claim the silver medal.
Having pulled on the Oceania Champions jersey in March, following success in the junior road race at the 2018 Oceania Road Championships, Sarah Gigante (AUS) raced her way to silver in the points race.
Alex Martin-Wallace and Alice Culling combined to win bronze in the Madison with Sophie Edwards setting a new Australian Record to take bronze in the individual pursuit.
