Olympic Champion Ellesse Andrews leads New Zealand to team sprint gold on the opening day of the 2025 Oceania Track Championships

New Zealand’s Ellesse Andrews, who became the most successful female sprinter at a single Olympic Games in Paris last year led New Zealand to a new Oceania Championship Record of 47.288 seconds in the elite women’s team sprint.

The trio were dominant throughout the rounds, with 47.478secs in qualifying the first of three Championship records of their day and 47.304 in round one.

Andrews combined with fellow Olympic medallist Shaane Fulton and Olivia King to reclaim the title New Zealand last won in 2022.

“[That feels] good! We haven’t ridden a team sprint since the Games and we haven’t ridden a team sprint in this combination for years either so I think it was really cool to come out and test a new combination with Liv and Shaane and put a good performance down,” said Andrews.

With the team event down the dual Olympian now turns her attention to the individual events and will line up in the sprint, keirin and newly introduced 1km time trial over the next three days.

“I feel like it will be some really good racing out there. We saw five teams I think today in the team sprint, so I think there should be a good few girls entering the individual events.”

Silver went to Australia’s Kristine Perkins, 2023 champion Alyssia McCaig and Sophie Watts in 48.068 seconds with Lauren Perry, Kalinda Robinson and Emma Stevens (Australia) rounding out the podium.
