The Oceania Cycling Confederation (OCC) is pleased to welcome the Solomon Islands as a new member nation, following the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Congress in Leuven, Belgium, Friday 24 September 2021.

The Solomon Islands are one of four new nations officially recognised by the Union Cycliste Internationale bringing the total number of member nations to 201. With the UCI becoming one of the few international federations to have more than 200 members.

The admission of the Solomon Islands, grows the number of National Federations affiliated with the OCC to 11, comprising eight Full Members and three Associate Members.

OCC President and UCI Management Committee Member Tony Mitchell said, “The UCI and OCC welcome the Solomon Islands as a member nation I look forward to continuing to work with the Solomon Islands Cycling Federation to grow cycling in the Islands and across the Oceania Region.

“The growth of National Federations continues to be a focus for the OCC and is an overarching objective of the OCC Pacific Development Plan, with a goal of the creation of a cycling culture in the Pacific and for cycling to be introduced into the Pacific Games.”

The OCC continues to engage with prospective members in our region to affiliate with the UCI and OCC, having grown from four members in 2014.
