Tony Mitchell re-elected for second term as Oceania Cycling Confederation President

Tony Mitchell was re-elected as President of the Oceania Cycling Confederation (OCC) for a second four-year term at the 2025 OCC Congress in Adelaide, January 16, 2025.

The 2025 OCC Congress and AGM were held ahead of the start of the Tour Down Under, the first men’s and women’s World Tour races of the year.

The Congress brought together representatives of 12 of the 14 Member Nations of the OCC.

President of the Continental Confederation since 2021, Mitchell the first New Zealander to hold the role, will serve a second team having served on the Executive since 2016. He was elected unopposed.

Current UCI Management Committee Member Anne Gripper (Australia), Eric Tydingco (Guam) and Tracey Gaudry (Australia) were re-elected to the Executive and are joined by 2017 and 2018 Oceania MTB Cross-country and 2023 MTB Marathon Champion Samara Sheppard (New Zealand) for the next four years.

Tracey Gaudry has served on the Executive since 2012 including as President between 2012-2021, Eric Tydingo will serve a third team, having been Vice President since 2021. Anne Gripper who is the second Oceania Member on the UCI Management Committee was first elected in 2021 and will serve a second term.

Newly elected member Samara Sheppard brings new experience to the Executive having won three elite Oceania titles as the OCC continues to grow cycling in our region.

Oceania Cycling Confederation President and UCI Management Committee Member Tony Mitchell said, “I am proud to have been re-elected to a second team as President and it is a privilege to continue to lead the Oceania Cycling Confederation and the development of cycling in our region.”

“The OCC continues to see strong growth and today we officially welcomed our two newest Member Nations Belau and Nauru to the Oceania family. I look forward to working with them and all members over the coming four years.

“Last year was another successful year for the OCC, adding two new Championships with Mountain Bike Marathon and Enduro, confirmation that cycling will return to the Pacific Games in 2027. Already this year we have seen the opening round of the new Oceania MTB Continental Series.”

“I congratulate my colleagues Tracey, Eric and Anne on their re-elections and welcome Samara to the Executive. I would also like to extend my thanks to outgoing Executive Member Patrick Keenan for his support and service to cycling in our region.”

At the AGM, Oceania Pacific Development Manager and Cycling Australia Chief Executive Graham Fredericks was awarded the first OCC Merit award for his decades of service to cycling in Oceania.

Members also adopted constitutional changes including allowing up to two co-opted members to the Executive, allowing the OCC Executive to draw on additional expertise, provide opportunities for Pacific Members and development opportunities.

At the first meeting of the new Executive, held after the AGM and Development workshop Eric Tydingco was re-appointed as Vice President and Teva Bernadino was co-opted to the Executive.
